Jo
Marie McGill,
owner of JCA Dance Academy got her start volunteering
to run the Carol Young School of Dance when her daughters
were students there. She gained valuable experience in
learning the operation of running a successful dance
studio and become skilled in all aspects of backstage
preparations for recitals.
Remembering
what it was like to be a “dance parent” she
makes sure children who dance for fun are treated as equally
as those that compete and bring home the trophies. She
loves working with children and her volunteer work proves
it!
Jo
recently resigned from running a very successful dance
program at Fairfield West Elementary. In the five years
she volunteered, she took a program of 30 children and
built it to a point where students were being turned away
for lack of space. During her last season she had over
125 children in her dance program. Countless hours were
spent planning their huge spring recital held at Parrish
Auditorium. Dress rehearsals were full houses and recitals
resulted in standing ovations; a tribute to a job well
done.
In
addition, Jo also coached the Fairfield Middle
School Dance Team. Her team performed for Miami University
basketball games and, although they are 7th & 8th grade
students, they were invited to compete against high school
squads at the Shrine Circus Competition. They placed 3rd
out of 9 teams.
Jo
is a lifelong resident of Fairfield. Having graduated in 1969
from Fairfield High School, she married William McGill. Her
husband Bill has also lived in Fairfield his entire life and
graduated from Badin High School in 1968. They have been married
for over 35 years. They have four children and several wonderful
grandchildren.
Jo
looks at this venture as a new beginning for her. She loves
working with children and it gives her a chance to use
her art background to be creative with costumes and props. |
